“There are over 3,000 Grama Niladhari Vacancies across the country,” said Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, Chandana Abeyratne.
“As a result, one Grama Niladhari is compelled to oversee duties in several divisions,” he stated. Abeyratne also mentioned that the government would address several issues faced by the Grama Niladharis, including the establishment of a Service Constitution for them. “We will take immediate steps to fill these vacancies. The Grama Niladhari Service Constitution has been approved by the Public Service Commission, following the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers.
We will soon meet trade union representatives to discuss this document and make necessary changes,” he added.
